Howdy, my name is Daniel Andrews. During the summer of 2011, I did my RPTS internship at Conservation Corps Minnesota (CCM) in Minnesota.
The Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa provides meaningful projects for young people in conserving energy and natural resources, responsing to emergency situations, and serving volunteers. They also provide training in resource management, safety, and technical skills. Their mission statement is to help young people aged from 15 to 25 years old in order to develop their personal responsibility, and to gain work ethic and awareness of environmental conservation and preservation. In addition, their goal is to assist young people from diverse backgrounds to get engaged in environment, conservation, and community; and to prepare for future jobs.
The Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa offer several programs such as Summer Youth Program and Youth Outdoors for youths and AmeriCorps for young adults. From my experience, I worked at Conservation Corps Minnesota as Crew Leader for Summer Youth Corps Program and my responsibilities as Crew Leader were to supervise, encourage, and lead educational activities with a crew of five to eight high-school aged youth participants on conservation work projects in state and national parks.
Requirements and qualifications for this position:
· Must be 19 to 25 years old
· It is NOT necessary to have previous experience or education with youth development and natural resource management
· Willing to:
o Work hard in an outdoor surroundings
o Work with diverse youth in conservation, education and recreation settings
o Camp and live in the outdoors
o Perform strong work habits, environmental ethics and team unity
o Show positive morale
o Able to make a difference
o Sense of humor

A crew member was cutting the grass with weed whipping tool
